Puerto Natales, Chile. This is the town people trekking in Torres del Paine use a a jump-off point. It has almost no charm, except a marked similarity to Cicely, the Alaskan town in Northern Exposure. The hostel we stayed in there left much to be desired, esepcially a clean bathroom, but did come with very helpful staff who calmed our concerns about hiking for days on end in wild Chilean countryside. And they had an extremely cute kitten.
