The newly minted Joanne Ferguson reading the paper in Hay on Wye.

A building in Hereford city centre. I imagine I should know what sort of building it is. Let's call it the town hall, shall we.

The outside of Hereford cathedral taken form the gardens of the bishop's palace. The palace is apparently the oldest building in England in continuous occupation. We had cakes on the lawn.

The interior of Hereford cathedral, taken when we stopped there on our way to Hay on Wye.

There are things that I like that aren't swans or churches. Two are in this photograph.

I went to Eton, you know. This is the chapel. No, I didn't actually go to Eton.

Durdle Door on a very rainy day.

There aren't many pictures of me on this blog, but here's one that isn't dreadful. This is Swanage, which is an excellent name for a town if you ask me.

There's a steam train that runs through the Isle of Purbeck to Swanage and it goes through Corfe Castle, which is an excellent place with an eponymous castle (currently covered in National Trust scaffolding), a lovely church, a tiny town hall and lots of pubs. The train was of course superb.

Portland in Dorset viewed from the top. On the left is Chesil beach and Weymouth's on the right. Portland has several interesting features including two prisons, a naval base, a coastguard station and the quarry where they got the stone for the Cenotaph in Whitehall. It was very pleasant and much better than that other prison island, the Isle of Wight, which you can't walk to.

Baby swan poster in Weymouth town centre. It was advertising a swannery along the coast. We didn't go because we were too busy wandering around and trying to identify frigates off Portland and so on.

Our JP in Dorset near the campsite we stayed at which ends just in front of the beach. Over Joanne's right shoulder is Weymouth and to the far left is Portland, where we went and saw mostly prisons and naval establishments.

Look! Egham's town coat of arms features swans! It's still a bit of a rubbish town, but it's coat of arms has got swans on it and that's got to count for something.

Royal Holloway founders building, handily located over the main road from us. We've identified this as the source of all the chirpy young people with experimental hair we see around the village.
